Gone are the days when ZenBook was newly out and its design would put the competition to shame, now they just put themselves to shame with these. Sigh.
I am not sure how useful this screen is going to be, personally I hardly ever used the touchpads on laptop. I just prefer a mouse. And this reminds with of little screens on Logitech gaming keyboards which I rarely used - only try it out and did not care.
But I seen some stuff about new version of portable devices coming out with Dual screen, always connected and using the hybrid Lakefield processor for late 2019 or likely 2020 time frame. Maybe Asus is trying to jump the bandwagon on this technologic with this laptop.
The second screen looks like a gimmick, but I am curious as to why your usage or non-usage of a touchpad due to the presence of an external mouse would influence the utility of the things displayed on the touchpad/screen. Just because it isn't your primary pointing device doesn't really mean it will also be pointless (pun intended) as an additional display.
Am I the only one who keeps thinking Star Trek when I see that insignia on the back? I suppose that these are officially approved by the United Federation of Planets.
You're not alone. Though I worry about being randomly blasted with disruptors when a bunch of Romulans decloak from nearby and unload on me because I'm on the wrong team.
I'm sure after the Asus Transformer Prime lawsuit, their lawyers have made a long trek to ensure that insignia is legally distinct from any alliance of planets, federated or otherwise.
Odd, I thought it was a thing of beauty. Why make do with a flimsy data connector for charging when you can use something actually designed for the task?
I get the desire for USB charging on phones, where space is at a premium and power draws are small. I simply don't understand it on a machine with space for multiple full-size USB ports and an HDMI port. Barrel connectors are nice, simple, robust devices. They do one thing, and do it well. ... And honestly? I'm scared of the USB PD spec. A hundred watts through that tiny piece of crap is concerning. We used to have power connectors designed by electrical engineers. Now they're designed by marketing and they make safety sacrifices for size and aesthetics.

Is there a less premium (and less gaudy) asus laptop with the same screen and the same internals?Retycint - Friday, June 7, 2019 - link
Given the fact that Asus seems to pump out several dozen variations of the Zenbook 13/14 every year, the answer is likely to be yesUmer - Friday, June 7, 2019 - link
