Modern enthusiasts often want one of two things from their monitor: high frame rates, or great color reproduction. MSI is certainly going for the latter in its new 5Kx2K display, the PS341WU. This is a 5120x2160 21:9 monitor that offers 98% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut with a DeltaE of under 3, and comes with HDR600 certification. The display also has an AdobeRGB mode (92-93%), and an sRGB mode. The unit has a nanoIPS display, supporting 4-way picture-by-picture.

The look of this monitor is great. I had some time for hands on, and the fact that it is like a standard 4K monitor but with 33% extra room on the side really gels well with what would be my normal workflow. MSI said that it hits the HDR600 specification by being 600 nits peak, 500 nits typical.

The monitor can switch between color modes using the OSD, a macro button on the rear, or through software installed on the system. The design goes great with the new P100 system. MSI states that they expect the monitor to be available in Q3, at a cost of $1299, which is $200 cheaper than equivalent competition. Perhaps I should start reviewing monitors(!).

Wow that is pretty nice. 34 inches to, not the lame 27 inch stuff you see. Not a big fan of the white color though.

Agreed nice monitor but also not a fan of the white colour.

That's unavoidable to a certain extent, there are a lot of Macbooks among its target crowd.

MacBooks are not white - this doesn't match them stylistically.

Painting it shouldn't be too much trouble.

Agreed. I think I might wait for the Dell with this panel.

Without FreeSync or GSync this is $1299 down the drain. Does it have either?

Down the drain? Read the first sentence of the article again. You are probably in the other category.

FreeSync/GSync is a waste. It won't help anything.
